Here we have a 5" Maxitrak 'Dixie', essentially their take on the venerable Kerr Stuart 'Wren' class that were so prolific on industrial narrow gauge railways. This loco was new in 1996, with the silver soldered copper boiler being professionally constructed by Cheddar Models for Maxitrak at the time.
She's not a new loco, and has obviously enjoyed a good bit of running with her previous owners, but mechanically everything is in good order. Cosmetically as you can see in the photos the paintwork is a little scruffy here and there, but again nothing that detracts too much from the model.
There is an injector fitted as well as a crosshead water pump with footplate mounted bypass valve and of course there is a hand pump in the saddle tank with a handy little access flap. Lubrication is mechanical and fed from the tank on the side of the engine. All in all an ideal and relatively inexpensive way to get into 5" live steam for your garden railway!
As with most of our models, what you see isn't necessarily what you get!
We often photograph models pretty much as they come in to us, and then when someone phones to say they are interested we pull the model into our workshops and make sure everything is tested, sorted and ready to go. So if you see the odd model photograph with a fitting missing or a return crank in the wrong place, that's just how it came in and certainly not how it will leave.
